Tarty Tarts

What will you do if you received a blueberry preserve?

Eat it with crackers? naaah.. too sweet for my taste..
Eat it with pandesal? I don't think it would go well with pandesal.
Since I haveleft over flour and butter..why don't I make some blueberry tarts? Perfect!

Here's some ingradients:
250 g/ 1 cup/8 oz all-purpose flour
125g/ 1/2 cup/ 4 oz caster sugar
125g/ 1/2 cup/ 4 oz butter, melted and cooled
2 tbsp milk
1 teaspoon lemon zest
2 egg yolks lightly beaten

filling:
canned cherries, drained
(but I used blueberry preserves)

Nothing hard to find right? You can use it with peaches, pears, strawberries.
Let's start mixing shall we?

1. To make pastry, combine flour and sugar in a bowl and make a well in the center.
Add butter, eggs, lemon zest, and milk and mix with a spatula or knife. Turn into a floured surface and knead lightly. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 mins.
2. Roll out two- thirds of pastry between two sheets of plastic wrap about 1 1/2 cm thick.
3 Line pastry cases (I used cupcake tins that are greased and dusted with flour)
4.Arrange fruits in the pastry. Place remaining dough in a pastry bag with a plain nozzle an pipe over filling in a lattice pattern. Pinch edges.
5. Bake at a preheated oven at 180 C / 350 F for 25- 30 minutes. Brush warm with jam.

So eeeeaaasy to make.. Here are some pictures I captured during my tart making :)

Happy baking!

LUAU barbie

I was commissioned to make a barbie cake dressed in a Hawaiian grass skirt. At first I thought it was really challenging and when I got my hands on it, twas really a big challenge.. I made the skirt with rolled MMf fondant ropes and I filled in the gaps by piping it with royal icing.

Enjoy!

It's a girl!

My kumare asked me to make an 8" girly cake for her baby's christening.. Of course I was soo excited being able to work again on things I love the most. Add some more cupcakes, it was a blast.. So I was thinking what kind of girly would I make for the goodies.. french dots? floral? ribbons?

Well maybe I'll take all of those and put it in Hailie's (Hailie Chanel is the name of the baby btw) cake.

Here are some outtakes from the cake I made! Hope you enjoyed!

Floral Cake

Here's the girliest cake I made for Aicha's birthday!
Her team wanted to surprise her with a pretty cake with a touch of orange. I've decided to make the ribbon out of orange fondant and made french dot details with silver dragees, topped with a dainty stargazer just right to make it all girly and pretty!

First off, Divisoria is a market district in the heart of the City of Manila known for its wide assortment of low-priced goods and wholesale and bargain shopping. Clothes, accessories, toys, novelties, decorations, pirated films and music, electronics, fruits, dry goods, school, office and household supplies, fabrics, textiles, crafts, novelties, decorations and “everything under the sun” can be found in Divisoria, making it “the mecca of value shopping” and “the mother of all markets in Manila.”

If you're looking for baking tools, gadgets, cake and cupcake boxes, wilton materials, flour and all sorts of ingredients, you bet its all in here.

There are lots of stores at the back of Divisoria mall along Sto. Cristo Street and the best store is the Best Way. Important TIP : If you're going to shop here, drink lots of vitamin patience as the shop itself may be filled with lots of buyers. If you want to be entertained, be nice to the salesladies and don't rant :D
